Two things that will save the planet

I believe two things will save the planet: The engagement and actions of people like you and me, and technology.

This week, I received an email from the No Impact Man - a man from New York who back in 2007 (or end of 2006) decided to live one year without the luxury of modern life. After successfully completing the year, and subsequently writing a book and shooting a film about his initiative, he (Colin Beavan) has now launched the No Impact Experiment, which is about encouraging everyone of us to live one carbon-less week.

This initiative, including all the big and small "green" actions around the world, are what we need to get politicians to sit up and listen, and to take action.

This week, I've also read an interesting article about how future technologies can reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. The article, Five Technologies That Could Change Everything, mentions space-based solar power and algae as two potential contenders. Surprisingly, I watched an ad from Exxon Mobile about how the company is researching and developing next-generation biofuels from photosynthetic algae. This is a hugely exciting news, especially since it's coming from an oil company that has long rejected the fact that we are facing a climate crisis.

So hurray for people and technology!

  1. Hei Torunn!

    Hilsen Nicholay
