Don't throw away the stem

My husband makes the most nutritious smoothies that contain everything from ginger and avocado to asparagus and broccoli. When it comes to the latter, he always just include the flower part so today I told him to throw in the stem as well as I believed it to be more nutritious.

"Do you know that for a fact?" he asked prompted me to look it up (thank goodness for the Internet!).

So, here's the deal: apparently the flower part of the broccoli, the florets, contains more vitamin A than the stem but, apart from that, their nutritional value is the same (check out my source). So, in conclusion don't throw the stem in the bin. Use it for something yummy instead, such as veggie burgers. Besides, broccoli and all dark green vegetables contain the important vitamin folic acid that researches from China say are extremely important to our health, and especially those suffering from high blood pressure.

So eat your greens and have a wonderful Sunday!
