Saying 'goodbye' to my cleaning products
I want to throw out my cleaning products, and I have been wanting to do it for quite some time now.
It all started after having read Clean House, Clean Planet by Karen Logan a few years ago. Logan wrote the book after experimenting cleaning her home with natural products, such as vinegar and baking soda. What she discovered was that her own mixtures did a much better job than the manufactured ones and also made cleaning a lot more fun. After reading the book, I swore never to use a mass-produced, chemical-based cleaning product again but my ambition quickly faded when I couldn't find all the natural products and cleaning essentials she mentioned.
Luckily for me, and others like me who have good intentions but lack the time to change their habits, there are now some pretty cool eco-friendly cleaning products on the market. Wowgreen is one company that is leading the way in this area. The Seventh Generation is another. Unfortunately, you cannot get hold of these products in Sweden. But, the other day I discovered Attitude, a Canadian eco-friendly brand, whose products I can get hold of on the internet. Also, Sweden has its own green cleaning brand called Grumme whose products are free from environmentally damaging ingredients such as phosphate.
So, the other day I brought a new Grumme product and I have also started to clean my home ‘the natural way’ by pouring coke into the toilet bowl and using water and lemon to renew the inside of my microwave. It’s quite fun to see if the natural methods work and it feels great to ’go green’ when it comes to cleaning, especially now that I have two small kids in the house. To be honest, anything that makes me greener feels great and so right!
